William Slessman serves as CEO and President, BASELAYER. Slessman has been an executive in the technology and data center industry for over 10 years, and has had responsibility for meeting the technology and service level needs for hundreds of enterprise and government customers. Prior to joining BASELAYER, Slessman was President of IO Technology, a leading provider of colocation and cloud services. Prior to IO, Slessman co-founded and was COO of Sterling Network Services, LLC, a leading enterprise colocation services provider (sold in July 2006). Slessman has assisted some of the largest, most technologically dependent and demanding companies in applying advanced technologies to their businesses, including Reed Elsevier, PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, Toyota Financial Services and Heller Financial. Slessman earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering and Applied Sciences from Arizona State University.
Parker Lapp serves as Chief Operating Officer at BASELAYER. In this role he is responsible for all of the administrative functions of the Company, consisting of Accounting and Finance; Human Resources; and Information Technology. Prior to BASELAYER, Parker was Chief of Staff at IO, having served that company from its inception in various roles covering Accounting and Finance; Human Resources; Global Corporate Development; Ecosystem; and Marketing. Prior to joining IO, Parker served as a senior executive in financial services, and also as a performance management consultant. Parker has an MBA with a concentration in Finance and Accounting from the University of Michigan Graduate School of Business Administration, and a BA in Economics from Michigan State University.
Samir Shah serves as Chief of Staff at BASELAYER. In this role, reports directly to the CEO and is responsible for strategic corporate initiatives, corporate brand/marketing and Board/Investor relations. Prior to this role, Samir was VP, Product Management, Marketing and Customer Service responsible for creating BASELAYER’s Intelligent Control platform including product planning, roadmap development, platform architecture, marketing and customer delivery. Prior to BASELAYER, Mr. Shah was Group Leader, Product Management for IO. During his time at IO, Samir’s key accomplishments included launching IO’s modular data center platform technology and global deployment of one of IO’s largest enterprise clients Goldman Sachs. Before joining IO, Samir spent 10 years in advanced system integration and R&D for IBM, JDS Uniphase and Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. Mr. Shah’s experience also includes working for venture capital and private equity firms such as Sterling Partners, ARCH Venture Partners, and MK Capital; Samir focused on investments specific to high growth technology companies. Samir, a native of Chicago, has a BS and MS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Illinois, and an MBA from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business.
Shay Demmons is EVP, General Manager of the BASELAYER RunSmart software division. In this position, Shay is responsible for running all facets of the software business unit including sales, marketing, product development and customer service. Prior to this role, Shay was BASELAYER’s Director of Product Management for the RunSmart OS product. Before joining BASELAYER, Shay worked at Corning where he was in charge of their Broadband product lines across the globe. Shay also held Senior Product, Business Development, Marketing and Engineering roles at Acoustic Technologies, NKK Switches and Intel Corp; notably obtaining two patents during his tenure at Intel. In all of these roles he led a strategic transformation by improving development cycles, driving down cost and growing revenue year-over-year. Mr. Demmons earned a BS in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University as well as a MBA from Babson College.
Susanna Kass is EVP, Head of Innovation and Sustainability Strategy for BASELAYER. Susanna has a proven track record of entrepreneurship, innovation success and originate new business growth for Energy, eCommerce, and Global Enterprise companies. She has held roles including Head of Innovation at NextEra Energy Resources and TPG Growth, COO at eBay International and Trilliant Network, as well as General Manager at Hewlett Packard and Sun Microsystems. Susanna has been the recipient of numerous awards including Distinguished GSB Alumna Award in Energy from Stanford University, Distinguished MBA Alumna from Pepperdine University, Distinguished Entrepreneur Award from New Mexico State University, and Presidential Entrepreneur Award from San Diego State University (SDSU). Ms. Kass graduated from Stanford Graduate School of Business Executive Program, holds an MBA from Pepperdine University and BS in Computer Science and Business Administration Marketing from SDSU.
Marc Hennessee serves as General Counsel at BASELAYER. He is responsible for all legal advice and activity at the company and works closely with the executive team to minimize risk across the enterprise. Prior to joining BASELAYER, Mr. Hennessee served as Senior IP Counsel at IO Data Centers where he developed the company’s patent and trademark portfolios and worked on technology transactions. Before joining IO, Mr. Hennessee was in private practice for over five years at Snell & Wilmer in the IP practice group. Prior to attending law school, Mr. Hennessee spent over thirteen years as a technology and software professional, holding various consulting and management positions in companies such as Accenture and MCI WorldCom. Mr. Hennessee earned his JD at the George Washington University Law School, has an MBA from George Washington and a BS in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia.
Marvin Rowell serves as VP, Global Support and Service at BASELAYER. In this role he is responsible for support and service functions for both the BASELAYER RunSmart and BASELAYER Anywhere product lines. Prior to his current role at BASELAYER, Mr. Rowell was VP of Quality and Test for IO’s modular datacenter product lines. Marvin also served as the Operations Manager for IO responsible for over one million square feet of data center space and 50 megawatts of power infrastructure. Prior to joining IO, Mr. Rowell served as a Forman at Cannon and Wendt Electric managing teams on high profile jobs such as Stadiums, Resorts, Hospitals, and Data Centers. Mr. Rowell attended Gateway Community College where he studied electrical science. Marvin also completed the IBEW Apprenticeship Program to obtain a Journeyman Wire License.
Phil Petersen serves as VP of Automation at BASELAYER. He is responsible for the design and support of automated ANYWHERE data center modules and integrating critical infrastructure into the BASELAYER OS. Phil held the same position at IO from the first days of the ANYWHERE design. Prior to joining IO, Mr. Petersen served as Western Regional Technical Advisor at ABB and Bailey controls for 15 years and Power Plant Supervisor at the US Department of Energy’s Rock Flats facility. Mr. Petersen graduated from the US Navy’s Nuclear Power Program and has 18 years of management and leadership roles in submarine operational, repair, and training facilities.
Srinivas Jasthi serves as VP, Software Engineering at BASELAYER. In this role, he is responsible for Software product technology strategy, vision and execution. Prior to BASELAYER, Mr. Jasthi served as the head of Software Engineering for IO. His expertise is in driving business innovation by critically leveraging technology. He holds two US patents for technology-enabled product innovations. Srinivas has over eighteen years’ corporate and consulting experience in all aspects of Software Engineering – platform development (including scale and scope), implementing lean processes and KPIs, building agile and entrepreneurial engineering teams, running successful startups and enabling SAAS based business models. Prior to joining IO, Srinivas served in leadership positions at AIG Travel Guard, Amazon, Qwest, DaimlerChrysler and AmazingMail. His consulting experience includes engagements at eBay, Wal-Mart, JCrew, Pitney Bowes and US Airways. Srinivas holds an MBA (specializing in New Product Development) from the University of Michigan Ross School of Business, an MS in Computer Science from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and a BE in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Osmania University, India.
